Carrying over 140,000 passengers every day, light rail accounts for more than 50% of journeys made on the mass transit system. A genuine commercial success, which translated into an increase in ridership of over 25% across the entire network between 2003 and 2005. The total cost of the project works out at more than one billion euros, 65% of which has been funded by revenues, 15% by public subsidies and 20% by borrowings.
