Ground power supply
In the historical center of Bordeaux, light rail vehicles are powered by a ground supply using a new, but perfectly safe system to limit the visual impact. Two pick-up shoes under the light rail vehicle collect the current delivered by a succession of conductors, each of which is insulated from all the others. Only one or two sections located directly under the light rail vehicle are energized. The sections are thus energized in turn as the light rail vehicle moves along the track.
This new technology is used on a 10 km stretch of double track.
